Tennis skills

 Over the past two weeks we have been practising our tennis skills. Trying to control the ball can be very tricky at times... but we showed great perseverance.

 

All Black Assembly

For those parents/family members who couldn't make assembly on Friday here is our All Blacks video. The children did a wonderful job putting this video together to share with you all.
Note: We did notice a small mistake (stetching should have been stretching) after publishing.

Length

During maths time last week we started a measurement unit looking at length. One of our maths challenges was to draw a pirate ship including the following measurements.

Length ………..10 metres
Middle mast……5 metres
Front/Back mast..4 metres
Plank……………1 metre
Here we are using a metre ruler to make our measurements accurate.

Inquiry - Our very own river models

Here we are with our very own 3D River Models. We used different material items to make, create and build the features that make up a river. We had to show our understanding of the following:

- source

- waterfall

- tributaries
- meanders

- wetlands

- riverbank

- riverbed

- estuary

 

 

Writing - about a place

The crib
The crib was usual enough. It had food, blossoming trees, sparkly fish, a lake and long grass. It even had some rocks we could climb.
My cousins and I did what kids do - jumped off the sparkly glimmer rocks, swam in the lake, played Mums and Dads in the forest and did gymnastics in the grass.

Kaka Point
The town was usual enough. It had: a big pub, two playgrounds, a beach and an old church. It even had a small fish and chip shop.
My sisters and I did what girls do, we went to the very small dairy, swam in the deep blue sea, went for very long bush walks, gathered shells and went to the pub to eat lunch.

Albert Town
The town was usual enough. It had a playground, a beach, a fish and chip shop, a lake, shops and a restaurant. It even had a fancy lake bar.
My family, my cousins and I did what people/holiday makers do - went to the pool, had fish and chips, cooked food, played at the playground and went to restaurants for dinner.

Adios Amego

Last Friday we said our farewells to Brianah. We were very spoilt, thanks to Brianah's mother who made a scrumptious chocolate cake that we all indulged in. We sure will miss her leadership skills in the classroom and her amazing role-modelling qualities. All the very best Bri....come and visit anytime!

3D River Model

Pat from Environment Southland came to talk to us about the pollution that can enter the Mataura River.

We learnt that pollution can enter the river from many sources like :

• Oil from cars
• Animal and human faeces
• Blood and guts from the freezing works
• Fertiliser and poison from farms
• Soil

With the help of rain fall pollution enters the river causing it to become dirty. It then travels from the river to the lakes and seas which causes river and sea creatures to become harmed and at risk of dying.

How to keep our river clean

• Keep animals away from the rivers by putting up fences
• Drain away pollution to prevent it reaching the waterways
